Frequently Asked Questions

AMPCO non-sparking tools are intended for use in areas where there is a higher risk of fire or explosion, such as environments where flammable gases, vapours, liquids, or combustible dust may be present.

AMPCO focuses on approved non-sparking alloys such as Aluminium Bronze (AlBz) and Beryllium Copper (BeCu), selected for strength and durability in industrial work.

As a simple rule: AlBz is commonly chosen for striking tools (e.g., hammers and striking/slugging wrenches), while BeCu is often used for tools that need strength on smaller working surfaces, such as cutting pliers and screwdrivers.

Non-sparking tools are widely used in mining, oil & gas, petrochemical plants, gas terminals, and painting/coating operations, as well as specialised applications such as MRI and defence.

Many AMPCO non-sparking alloys are selected for low magnetic response, making them suitable for applications where reduced magnetic interference matters (for example, around large magnets or sensitive equipment). If you have a specific requirement, contact us and we will advise the best option.

Yes. We provide IBExU documentation for our non-sparking tool materials, and we are certified to ISO 9001:2015 (LRQA) for our quality management system. Please refer to our certificates library for current files.

IBExU is a recognised German explosion-protection (Ex) testing body. For AMPCO Safety Tools, IBExU documentation supports the use of our copper-based low-sparking tool materials in hazardous-area applications.
